There are a number of factors that can cause headaches; some include: dietary issues, too much blue light from your computer, tablet or mobile phone, poor mobility in your cervical spine, pressure on the nerves exiting from the base of the skull, etc. Headaches can be debilitating, affect your daily activities, and down right annoying. We have helped many patients get their headaches under control by identifying and treating the cause(s).
One of the easiest things you can do to potentially curb your headaches is to stay properly hydrated. The brain needs a tremendous amount of fluid to work at it’s peak performance.
The second easiest thing you can do would be to do some gentle stretching for the neck and shoulders. Tension causing imbalances can contribute to the cause your headaches.
If you have old injuries, use your body in active ways such as sports/martial arts, or are carrying around your kiddos, the stress placed on your cervical spine could be the cause of your headaches. Malposition of the vertebrae in the neck and upper back can create an increase in inflammation and/or direct pressure on a nerve. A knowledgeable chiropractor will be able to determine the cause of discomfort and if necessary, perform chiropractic adjustments that could bring you relief.
Many patients notice improvement after their first few visits, though results vary depending on the underlying cause and how long you’ve been experiencing headaches. Dr. Elysa will give you a realistic timeline based on your specific examination findings. Some patients with acute tension headaches feel relief immediately following their first adjustment, while those with long-standing chronic headaches may need several weeks of consistent care to see significant changes.
It’s uncommon, but some patients experience mild soreness or a temporary increase in headache symptoms after their first adjustment—similar to how you might feel after starting a new exercise routine. This typically resolves within 24-48 hours as your body adapts. Dr. Elysa uses gentle techniques and adjusts her approach based on your comfort level and response to treatment.
Never stop any prescribed medication without consulting the doctor who prescribed it. Many patients find they naturally need less medication as their chiropractic care progresses, but this should happen gradually under appropriate medical guidance. Dr. Elysa’s goal is to help you rely less on medication over time by addressing the root cause of your headaches.
